As a part of an initiative to promote the scientific events outside of Kathmandu valley, the members of biohubnepal.com visited the First Biotechnology Conference, held between June 28 – 29, 2017, organized by Center for Biotechnology, Agriculture and Forestry University.
The event was co – organized by PMAPP, Ministry of Agricultural Development, Ministry of Livestock Development, Central Office, AFU, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Animal Science, Veterinary Science and Fisheries, Faculty of Forestry, Hetauda, Directorate of Research and Extension and College of Natural Resource Management, Kaski.
The event was supported by Professor Kobayashi Memorial Foundation, AFU, Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and Nepal Polytechnic Institute.
The conference marked the 7th anniversary celebration of AFU and covered the policy issues and broad thematic areas of Biotechnology. The program consisted of 7 invited speakers, 18 oral presentations and 20 poster presentations. More than 100 participants attended the conference that included representatives from government ministries, universities, research organizations and individuals engaged in Biotechnology research and application in Nepal.
During the program, various prizes were distributed for Best Poster Presenters as well as for Arts Competition that included Certificates and Cash Prize. Overall, it was concluded that the program can be considered a resounding success that has paved the path for future conferences to be held by the emerging university.
